This book is in the field of trans-cultural psychology, and is intended for college courses in anthropology and psychology, and general readership. the book focuses on intriguing facts about primitive cultures around the world, and provides insights into living traditions and different world views. a principal theme of the book is that we can gain a better understanding of ourselves by a "detour" to other cultures. the book shows how modern ways of thinking are parallel to those of primitive cultures, and engages readers to become more aware of who they are. As shown throughout the book, there is not, after all, a very wide gulf between primitive and modern cultures. the book covers many topics including animism, shamanism, totemism, hunting and cultivation rituals, altered states of consciousness, envy and the evil eye, how people deal with conflicts, potlatches, cargo cults, how people satisfy the need for social approval, culture-bound syndromes, folk medicine, treatment of women, raising of children, nomadic peoples, treatment of the dead, and other topics.

Fishing is one of the oldest continually practiced pastimes in history. But like almost everything else in our modern era, it too has been greatly influenced by ever-changing technology and scientific advances. With busy lives, it's often impossible for anglers to keep up with constantly evolving equipment. In An Angler's Guide to Smart Baits: Tips and Tactics on Fishing Twenty-First Century Artificials, veteran fisherman Angelo Peluso helps to navigate these often unsure waters of modern baits and how to fish them. Peluso takes readers through all the essential elements. Among the topics he explains, in depth, are: the appeal and purpose of materials used in modern lure construction, including hi-tech, durable plastics, acrylics and other polymers, and new-age finishes that give impressions of life; the modern science of both hard and soft baits; the sensory appeal of modern baits; and how to maximize a bait?s appeal to yield the most strikes and increase an angler's catch ratios. Including advice and input from expert lure designers, scientists, and manufacturers, An Angler's Guide to Smart Baits is an essential read for every modern fisherman.

The Survival Guide to Becoming a Manly Man of God was written as an enjoyable guide to help young men who believe in a higher power grow up during these difficult times. This was not written to tell a young man exactly what he must do in any given circumstance, but rather to bring to light some basic principles that will guide him as he progresses in life. Here we go over three basic aspects of being a manly man of God: being a spiritual man (man of God), being a man of knowledge/wisdom, and being a man who knows history. As a bonus, there are real-life survival guide tips, tricks, and suggestions at the end of each chapter. So what are you waiting for? Pick it up and take it home (legally of course!). Let’s go learn what it means to become a manly man of God!
The City Man s Guide to the Farm Problem
Release on 1965-09-10 | by Willard W. Cochrane
... why Secretary Freeman hammered away at establishing private recreational enterprises in low-production areas — fishing ponds and ski lifts, ... The automobile and modern roads bring most rural people within the reach of urban jobs.
The City Man's Guide to the Farm Problem was first published in 1965. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. Few domestic questions are so controversial as the farm problem, yet the average city man finds it difficult to understand the basic issues involved. In this book Professor Cochrane describes for the layman the nature and causes of the commercial farm problem and the rural poverty problem and provides the basis for making informed judgments about these problems and their possible solutions. He analyzes the economic and political forces which are at work in the farm economy, explains the organization of modern agriculture, showing the unique structure of farming, and draws a vivid picture of the revolutionary developments which have taken place in agriculture. He discusses behavior patterns of farmers and consumers as they relate to the farm economy, and the role of government in the farm industry and in the lives of farmers. The analysis and discussion make clear the reasons why the government is so deeply involved in farm issues and point up what will be needed in order to make some headway toward solutions of the problems. Professor Cochrane emphasizes that there is no perfect solution to the farm problem but he provides the information and analyses from which the reader can gain a better understanding of the issues. Sixteen photographic illustrations show old and new methods of farming and types of equipment. There are also a number of charts, graphs, and tables. Willard W. Cochrane is dean of international programs and a professor of agricultural economics at the University of Minnesota. He was director of agricultural economics in the U.S. Department of Agriculture and economic adviser to the Secretary of Agriculture from 1961 to 1964, and served as agricultural adviser to John F. Kennedy during the 1960 presidential campaign. He is the author also of Farm Prices: Myth and Reality.
